VOLVO CARS OF
NORTH AMERICA VOLVO SAVED MY
LIFE CLUB Once it's determined that an accident was severe enough that the performance of a Volvo did, indeed, help save the lives of the passengers, they become members of the Volvo Saved My Life Club. And, while we're very proud to be able to sponsor an organization like the Volvo Saved My Life Club, we hope for the day when potentially fatal car accidents will be a thing of the past. Until then, we end with this heartfelt wish and advice: Drive safely. If you believe that a Volvo has helped save your life in an accident, you can contact the Volvo Customer Care Center at customercare@volvocars.com and tell them you'd like to join the Volvo Saved My Life Club.

I, Robert Starr and my girlfriend, Megan Murphy, were driving from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio on February 6th when we hit a patch of black ice. The accident occurred on Interstate 71 when my 1990 Volvo 240 crossed the median and struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was estimated that both cars were going 65 miles per hour upon impact. We were both wearing our seat belts. I suffered a broken arm and a broken leg, which required surgery and a 12-month rehab stint. Megan had a broken pelvis and multiple fractures of her right leg. The State Highway Patrol, the EMS and the towing firm could not believe there was not at least one fatality. I am 20 years old and fortunate to be alive. Our families believe the lack of fatalities was due to our being in a Volvo. Volvo saved our lives!
Sincerely,
Robert L. Starr

My father called me up one weekend and asked if I wanted to meet him and my brother for a day of skiing. I agreed and packed my Volvo and headed out. It was a bright warm day for the North Country. The warmer day had produced a lot of snow-melt. I didn’t notice the temperature dropping as the sun went down.
I believe the road I was on was called Military Drive. I was following a long line of cars, when I came to a horseshoe turn at 35 mph. I began to swerve and fishtail. I overcorrected to get out of the opposite lane with the oncoming traffic. I didn’t want to hurt anyone else. As I cranked the wheel I spun completely around and rolled twice over an embankment. When the rolling was over, I was completely upside down in my Volvo, suspended by my seat belt. After verifying that my vital signs seemed okay, I turned off the ignition and worked on getting out of my seat belt. I pulled on the emergency brake to take some weight off of the belt, and unclipped it. That was the only injury I obtained. As I unclipped the belt I hit the top of the car with my head/neck. (Very painful.)
I truly owe my life to the family’s 1989 Volvo. There was little damage to the car (which was hard to believe after seeing the accident - the only scrapes were from the skis on top and the Thule Rack). What else can I say about a car that rolled twice down a hill, completely flipped over and then not only walked away, but drove away? I know there would have been a very different outcome if I drove a different car. Thank you, Volvo. You saved my life.
Sincerely,
Victoria (Tori) Kohn
