Warranty on Tires

Tire Longevity

Question
How long should the original tires on my vehicle last?

Answer

Tire life is affected by many factors including maintenance services such as wheel alignment, tire rotation and proper inflation pressure as well as driving habits. It can also vary due to differences in climates and road conditions. To increase the longevity of the tires on your vehicle, it is recommended that you maintain your vehicle and tires according to the recommendations listed in your Scheduled Maintenance Guide or Owner's Manual Supplement.

The Department of Transportation ( http://www.dot.gov ) establishes a treadwear grade for tires based on its comparative wear rate when tested under carefully controlled conditions. As an example, a tire with a grade of 300 should last twice as long as a tire with a grade of 150 on the government test course. However, the actual mileage your tires last depends on the conditions of their use and maintenance.

The treadwear rating for your tires can be found on the sidewall of your tires. Also, for a comprehensive list of treadwear ratings from the Department of Transportation, you can view the Uniform Tire Quality Grading Report on their website (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testing/UTQG/ ).
